Carswell Golf and Country Club, (Nr Faringdon,Oxon, SN7 8PU) is about 10 miles west of Oxford on the A420. There is a large car park, accommodation, bar, tables and comfortable seating in a large room where you can eat food at reasonable prices. Food is normally served at 7:30. Chef Lucien , his brother Julian & their staff, will make you very welcome. Telephone 01367 870909 to book accommodation or Richard Speed (01367 710593) for food/music tickets or music only tickets. We are a group of non profitmaking Jazz fans that run these gigs. The door takings pay the musicians. Our excellent Yamaha U3 piano is tuned (paid by the raffle money) before each event. Our popular second hand recordings table continues. From each successful sale, 50p is retained towards running costs, the remainder being passed back to the seller. If you wish to dispose of your surplus recordings, bring them with you and we shall do the rest!
2008 PROGRAMME Pete Downes Trio + trumpeter Dick Pearce. Pete is on guitars, Andy Coe bass, Tim Bruce drums.
The Sound of the Pete Downes Trio is a thing of Beauty. They feature a well balanced blend of new tracks & covers of diverse classics from the likes of Thelonius Monk, Sting & Jimi Hendrix. It is easy to see why the appeal of PD3 is growing at a healthy rate.
Both their CD 'BREAKOUT' & live performance at Swanage this year convinced us we must get this band. The line up says it all.
Mike Gorman hammond organ, Si Gerano harmonica, Rob Koral Electric Guitar, Zoe Schwarz vocals, Malcolm Creese bass & Dave Wallace drums With Tanya Boutte vocals, Thomas L'Etienne sax, Phil Parnell piano, Andy Crowdy bass, Denny Ilett guitar.
Autumn 2008 PROGRAMME Pianist Geoff Eales trio and Saxophonist Michael Coates.
Geoff along with Roy Babbington on bass and Mark Fletcher on drums have played for us many times over the past
17 years. On this occasion he is not accompanying a singer but brings a Canadian musician who plays frequently
with the trio. Look up this sax player on the Internet
& listen to his glorious melodic swinging sound. We are in for a musical treat. RS Pianist David Newton's trio with Jeremy Brown bass and Steve Brown Drums.
I can't think of a better present to give myself than an evening of jazz at Carswell with this wonderful trio. No
presents please, just come and enjoy yourselves with one of the very best of pianists anywhere in the world. RS.
. Vocalist Julie Edwards and guitarist Kevin Dearden with Al Gurr piano, Bill Coleman bass and
Alan Savage drums.A welcome return from this Northern band, which means we thought they were very good the first time RS "Good singer isn't she?" Michael Parkinson, "A true jazz singer who sparkles like a gem." Lee Gibson,
Jazz vocalist Liz Fletcher
plus multi reed player and humourist Alan Barnes. At this point in time we do not know who is in the trio.
I remember asking Alan & John Horler to name a singer they particularly enjoyed & Liz was their choice. Alan Smith,
a jazz addict often at Carswell, gave me a CD that featured Alan Barnes & Liz Fletcher then two years ago we heard and
saw her live at Swanage festival & here they are at long last. We can't think of a better way to enjoy our Christmas
Special & round off the year with you. RS.
